Extinguished Spark

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about efficient EVs with Aptera now accepting reservations. There are also small cars like Nissan Leaf or Solo. What if you had a Leaf with more torque and thermal management? Enter Chevy Spark.

Most will disregard the Spark as a “compliance vehicle”. In fact, the car has undergone a lengthy evolution of design. It started out a Daewoo based on a 1993 Fiat concept by Italdesign. It would undergo several name changes and facelifts after GM acquired Daewoo.

Some may recognize the car as the Domino’s DXP. The DXP was not supposed to be driven by the general public, as the included pizza oven made it an exclusive and specialized vehicle. Check out Samcrack or Rich Rebuilds channels to follow the life of one DXP.

The DXP was 2015 model EV. Sales of the EV model ran from 2013 to 2017. Chevy only produced a little over 7,000 Spark EV models in this time. Look it up, and you’ll find happy owners rave about this short-range vehicle.

As for now, Chevy’s ICE model is going away. 🙁 2022 will be the final year of production. The brand apparently has no more need for a compliance vehicle as its major models shift to electrification.

It is a bitter-sweet goodbye for what seems to be a peppy little car that was hidden from the world. The 2017 remains a great used EV bargain! Well, it seems that financing on an Aptera may be the best option. We’ll see how that plays out when we actually get some on the road!
