What it would be like to drive in the Venus project…

I’ve been doing some thinking about The Venus Project lately. If you don’t know about The Venus project, it was started by Jacques Fresco around 1980. This is after he interviewed with Larry King and mentioned social cyberneering (This was an earlier stage of development for his ideas.) in the 70’s.

The Venus Project is an organization that proposes a feasible plan of action for social change, one that works towards a peaceful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines an alternative to strive toward where human rights are no longer paper proclamations but a way of life.” – thevenusproject.com

Jacques Fresco, the founder of the Venus Project, was a fascinating person. His utopian designs for cities included literal “centers” with hospitals and universities. He imagined high technology without the need for government and police.

What would transportation be like in the Venus project?

From drawings of Jacque’s cities, these included mass transit as well as commuting cars. Apparently, Tesla was not the first one to think of glass roofs. I imagine the Lightyear Zero as being close to one of his concepts (though, the Lightyear is enclosed with solar panels).

Jacques wanted to Figure out the needs of humanity. Some of his ideas included crosswalks that create a barrier for pedestrians, Ultra efficient infrastructure, and speed limiting devices. Generally speaking, smart technology which reduces harm.

Personally, I cringe every time I see a lifted truck speeding past me on the freeway. Half of the time, drivers don’t even signal anymore. I have sensitive eyes – probably from staring at screens all of the time. Those Tesla lights are annoyingly bright too. Anyways, Jacques was a guy who asked questions, and I respect him for that.

The roadways are something we share. When we operate a vehicle and choose to enter the public road space, we take on risk for ourselves and others. Fresco went beyond personal responsibility and policing. He imagined solutions that accommodate humanity for its needs and its flaws.

As I researched, I stumbled onto something. Tesla is a car company named for an amazing inventor. Now, Fresco is a Norwegian EV startup named after Jacques. You can take a look at the intro video to the “XL” below. It’s a long range 8-person dual motor concept. It features a structural “double stacked” battery and boasts over 600 mi of range. They imagined the Fresco car for me, and I didn’t even know it!

It’s a lovely homage to a man who inspires many!
